Three dahlia heads unfold in a fan on an almost uniform ivory background, leaving plenty of space for the flowers. The first, on the left, displays darker petals, almost burgundy, while the other two are in powdered rose nuanced towards white at the ends of the petals. The stems, painted in a range of pale green and yellow, gently intertwine before disappearing into blurred foliage. This foliage, treated in sage green and taupe, almost blends into the background, creating a photographic blur effect very much like watercolor. The light seems to come from the front, illuminating the petals evenly without marked shadows. The pictorial technique, fluid and transparent, reveals the fibers of the paper beneath the layers of color. The whole exudes a botanical freshness, between naturalistic illustration and contemporary decorative painting.
