A golden stroll along the water, where time seems to have stopped on the old facades. This painting invites to daydreams and evokes a golden light typical of Alsatian evenings, between bluish reflections and the tranquility of the canal.
The composition is organized around a canal bordered by half-timbered houses typical of Strasbourg’s Petite France. The sky occupies a large upper portion, crossed with pastel blue clouds and golden streaks that recall a brilliant sun. The white and anthracite facades are reflected in the calm water, creating a striking play of symmetry. An antique lamppost and a golden stone wall structure the foreground, bringing relief to the scene. The trees on the right are treated with thick touches of gold and blue, evoking autumnal foliage. The whole oscillates between delicate watercolor and metallic impasto, offering a hybrid style between architectural realism and luminous abstraction. This warm and cool color palette gives the work an almost dreamlike depth.
