The barracuda occupies the entire center of the composition, head raised out of the water, open mouth revealing its sharp teeth. The palette opposes a anthracite gray texture, reminiscent of stormy clouds, to golden tones that run through the scales and fins like strands of light. The background gradually shifts to a pastel blue evoking the agitated marine surface. The thick impasto technique creates a sculptural relief where the paint seems to have been shaped with a palette knife, giving a nearly three-dimensional texture.
