The composition evokes a flower seen from the front, its petals radiating from an intense and matte black center. The left half displays shades of teal, powder blue and pastel violet that darken towards the bottom in a deep burgundy. The right half explodes in orange, ocher and golden yellow, punctuated by luminous ivory touches. The pictorial material is applied in thick impasto, each brushstroke forming a distinct petal with an almost three-dimensional relief. Light glides over these reliefs and creates soft shadows that accentuate the texture. The contrast between cool and warm tones structures the entire image into two complementary hemispheres. This impasto technique recalls the great traditions of Abstract Painting where the brushstroke itself becomes the subject of the work.
