The composition juxtaposes chrysanthemums with dense and ruffled petals in ivory, burgundy and goldtones, arranged without apparent hierarchy over the entire surface. The terracotta background adorned with discreet floral motifs recalls Japanese imperial fabrics. A stylized wave in navy blue and pearl gray runs across the right side of the work, its swirls traced with fine gold lines evoking classic prints. The contrast between the curled texture of the flowers and the fluid lines of the water creates a continuous visual tension.
