La composition présente un pingouin en profil, la tête tournée vers la droite, dont le corps entier est décomposé en une multitude de facettes géométriques façon vitrail. Le doré et l'ocre dominent le plumage supérieur, tandis qu'un rouge terracotta intense traverse la poitrine en diagonale. Le bec et les contours du visage sont traités en anthracite profond, rehaussés d'un orange vif au niveau du bec et de la joue. L'arrière-plan, plus sobre, associe un beige sable à une bande de bleu pastel évoquant la mer calme.
