The framing narrows the focus to a piano keyboard and two brown-skinned hands, painted in shades of terracotta and warm brown. A deep red occupies the left side of the composition, while an intense navy blue envelops the pianist's suit and the background. The black and white keys of the piano create a strong graphic rhythm, almost abstract in its vertical repetition. The pictorial material is applied with a knife, in wide impasto that gives the canvas a sculptural texture. White light plays on the reliefs of the paint and makes the contrasts between shadow and light vibrate. The style is part of an expressive figuration, where the gesture of the brush counts as much as the subject represented.
