The visual

The composition stretches the dragon across the entire width of the panoramic format, head turned to the left, mouth open spewing a cloud of smoke and flames. The body gradually dissolves into streaks ofanthracite and fawn gray, as if absorbed by the light background. The ivory background, almost uniform, leaves all the space for the expressiveness of the line, applied in the manner of Chinese ink. The red breath, a mixture of terracotta and dark burgundy, violently contrasts with the rest of the subdued palette. The scales and horns are suggested by vigorous, almost calligraphic black impasto. The light seems to emanate from the breath itself, the only warm point in an otherwise mineral work. The whole exudes a tension between pictorial restraint and animal release.
