The anthracite largely dominates the canvas, declined in a multitude of shades ranging from deep charcoal to pearl gray. Orange and ochre bursts pierce in places, evoking hearth fires or nocturnal urban lights. Fine, diagonal lines traverse the surface, recalling cables or architectural structures suggested rather than drawn. The lower part of the work offers a reflection effect, like a troubled mirror, which doubles the city and amplifies the feeling of vertigo. The pictorial style combines impasto and transparency, in a technique close to knife painting.
